In SA it is now a requirement for all parties in a property transaction to verify their identity as part of the Conveyancing transaction. The introduction of this policy should reduce the risk of fraud, strengthen the integrity of South Australia’s Torrens land title system & form part of the preparations for the introduction of electronic conveyancing.
For individuals it means that they need to produce a series of original documents such drivers licence, passport, birth certificate etc at a Face to Face meeting with an approved ‘Responsible Person’. It would be good practice for individuals to take early steps to ensure they have original identity documents so that there is no potential for delays to settlement.
